Topic: When The Heart Breaks!
Text: Proverbs 18: 14
14 A man’s spirit sustains him in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear? Amen.
Sometimes the body is plaqued by sickness but the spirit/ heart refuses to give in, so the person lives on; battered on the outside but strong within.
You see, inside the spirit/ heart of every living person is found faith, hope, love, joy, trust, inspiration, courage, strength and godly determination. However, when this fragile glass is broken, the individual may be as good as dead. He/ she bearly finds any reason to continue holding on to the idea of a brighter tomorrow. This is condition has been classified by many as “BROKEN HEART”.
The term is a common metaphor for the intense emotional pain or suffering and sometimes physical pain one feels after losing a loved one, whether through death, divorce, breakup, separation, betrayal, or romantic rejection. Its consequences vary from depression to insanity, at worst, suicide.
Medical professionals do a wonderful job restoring most of those who unfortunately suffer from this condition. However it is common knowledge everywhere that, no amount of pills, capsules or even surgery can utterly heal “brokenheartedness” except God. King David did not miss words when he told about God that; “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Ps 147: 3).
One day when Jesus had been given the scroll to read in a synagogue on a Sabbath, He opened to the book of Isaiah and said; “the Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised” (Luke 4: 18, KJB).
What might we be waiting for then beloved? Why don’t you bring the fragments of your broken heart to Jesus? His healing touch will not simply fix your “torn apart heart”, but make it new again. You can put the past behind you and live again. Begin to pray therefore! Ask forgiveness for holding on to all this grief and pain, let go of all the bitterness, and let God take a hold of your heart. Ask for restoration and trust His promises to be true.
Don’t let the devil lie to you any longer. “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Ps 34: 18).
Very soon He will make all these work together for your good, you’d see!
