Topic: What Must We Do Then?
Text: Luke 3: 10- 14
10 “What should we do then?” the crowd asked. 11 John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.” 12 Even tax collectors came to be baptized.“Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?” 13 “Don’t collect any more than you are required to,” he told them. 14 Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” He replied, “Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely—be content with your pay.” Amen
John the Baptist was born to be the forerunner of our Lord Jesus. He was to prepare the way for the Lord by preaching and baptizing into repentance.
One day, he said to his followers, “the ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.” ( Luke 3: 9). Everyone came to him with the same question: what should we do then?
Beloved, the reflections have begun in our minds already. Very soon this fading year will give way to a new one. In that new one, all of us will celebrate our birthdays again- an indication that we are growing too.
Some of us have big dreams and plans. Others have high expectations of God, HE MUST SHOW HIMSELF STRONG. Only few are asking themselves “what should I do?”
What should I do to bear good fruits next year? What should I do to avoid the wrath and judgement of God? What should I do differently? What must I do better? What must I do to maintain my blessings?
Until we question ourselves on those areas of our lives that require restructuring or improvements, so as to find and apply inspired solutions from the Word of God, our expectations of the new year may not be met.
Let us all in a moment ponder over the passing year then. Question yourself on all the areas that you didn’t strive best, especially in your relationship with God and people. Repent from all sin. Make a decision to live for God and demonstrate His love through giving/ sharing.
Do not extort money from people or falsely accuse them. Be diligent with your work and CONTENT WITH YOUR PAY. With God on our side, the coming year will be a great one to all God’s children, especially those who believe in, and, live for, Him! Begin to pray now.
Remember the Lord Jesus comes quickly, His reward with Him for all who will be true to the end. Remain faithful to Him, no matter what. Click: https://youtu.be/Q8eGxthVdxE
