Topic: What Do You Want?
Text: John 1: 35- 39
35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” 37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.
38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” 39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon. Amen
Many of us have heard a lot about Jesus from pastors, evangelists, apostles, teachers and prophets. We have also seen the fringes of His handiwork, so we follow Him. The question is: why?
If Jesus was to turn and inquire why you are following Him, what will be your response? Will it be for the miracle you need or the healing for your relative? Will it be because of hunger or your quest for power that only He can sustain? Are you following Him for a great job and good marriage? Or you are following Him to hide away from all the troubles that life brings?
The Lord Jesus may not have a problem to realise these are the reasons why you follow Him. Well, He already knows that anyway. How happy He would be however, if you made the decision to follow Him to dwell. To stay in Him and He in your heart forever. To love His dwelling place and spend the rest of your life with Him.
In His presence, there is the fullness of joy. At His right hand, there are pleasures evermore. Blessings abound where ever He reigns. Chains are broken and captives set free. David said “one thing I desire from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek Him in His temple (Ps 27: 4). It is priceless beloved, the best thing that can happen to a believer.
So the next time Jesus turns with a smile on His face, and says to you “what do you want”, don’t be as selfish as always to say you want money, shoes and clothes. Let Him see that you want Him. A relationship with Him and a fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
Begin to pray now and ask for grace to look beyond your circumstance to love God with all your heart. Pray with the song “I just want to be where you are, dwelling daily in your presence (Don Moen).
Remember Jesus told the two disciples of John, “come and you will see”. It means once you choose to dwell with me, you have automatically signed for the entire package. Come and see the wonder of My hands displayed in your life forever! Beloved choose right, choose to dwell!
