Wayward Advice (Part 1)

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Wayward Advice (Part 1)
Text: Job 2: 9- 10

9 His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!” 10 He replied, “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” In all this, Job did not sin in what he said. Amen

Today, we begin series dubbed “wayward advice”. The focus will be to reflect on some biblical characters and the kind of terrible advice they gave. We will also assess the impact their counsel made on their “counselees”. The aim of this series is to arm ourselves against such people and (or) the terrible advice they give.

WAYWARD ADVICE FROM SPOUSE:
Well, the unexpected has happened in her home. This is more than she can take. Losing wealth, children and the warmth of a darling husband must be so devastating. But how does “curse God and die” solve this matter in anyway?

Of course, in the heat of that moment, it seemed the best option to Job’s wife. God had failed them and there was nothing left than retaliate by hurting Him with curse and then we die, and that is it.

Be careful of those who give the easiest “solution out”. They do not put your aspirations and divine destiny into consideration. They question why you still uphold your integrity. They tell you to quit the marriage, job or academics at the least opposition. They ask that you quit life while they live, with no intention to die soon.

Beloved the nuggets for today is to remember that every good thing around us is but a gift from God (James 1:17). He delights in our prosperity and well-being (3 John 1:2). That’s the totality of God’s plan for our lives. When things get tough and rough, don’t go for options that promise to restore you overnight if you will compromise your faith. Hold on to Jesus- He never fails.

Why should you curse God and die? Why should you plunge yourself into more ruin and misery by heeding to this “wayward” advice? Shall we accept good from God, and not “trouble”? Does God not make all things work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose?

Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you through life. Choose God over all other things and choose life over death whenever death threatens. At least until such a time that God calls you home. Meditate on this word and begin to pray now. Ask God for grace and strength to wait on Him through the storm.
