Reality Check (Psalm 121:1,2) June 25,2013

“I lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!” Amen

A young man who was wasting a lot of money and living large was once asked why he had chosen to do so. His reply was, “Ma Poppy dey!”; meaning “Dad is always my backup”.

Unfortunately, a number of Christians live with similar mentalities. Though we profess to trust and depend on God, our truest confidence is in our parents, spouses, jobs, qualifications and at times certain promises that people make to us.

The Scripture above points out that…

1) Each of us has hills in our lives. The hills refer to things, people or situations that we look up to, and draw one benefit or the other from.

2) Despite the presence and effects of these hills in our lives, our true help comes from God, and God alone. Without Him, we are nothing.

3) The God who demands our trust and dependence is the SAME who created all things, so our lives are safe with Him.

May we learn to look beyond our hills, unto the Lord who made heaven and earth. With Him, our future is secured. Begin to PRAY with the song “Be Magnify Oh Lord, You are highly exalted”.
