Examine Your Motives (Text: James 4:2&3) May 25, 2013

“…Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong — you want only what will give you pleasure ”
Amen

Two revealing facts are presented in the Scripture above:
1) Some people do not receive what they want because they do not ask God in prayer for it. They simply assume that since God knows all things, He should be able to tell their needs and automatically supply them.

2) Some do not receive what they ask God for in prayer because their motives or reasons for asking are not right. Such people desire and ask God for things that will satisfy their pleasures, or cause others to envy or respect them.

Ponder over this; what is your motive for that one thing you have been praying, fasting, screaming and jumping for?
Is it inorder to taunt an enemy, prove a point, or to use it as a resource for accomplishing God’s purpose for your life?
Consider what King Solomon asked God for- WISDOM; do you remember what He needed the wisdom for?

Pray now and present ALL your heart’s desires unto God, this time, with the right motives.
