Today’s Devotion
Topic: This God!
Text: Mark 4: 41
They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!” Amen
Beloved, not so much to be bothered by the circumstances we may encounter this year, but to know the God with whom we are travelling. The moment we accept that He can do all things, the burden becomes lighter because He actually takes over.
According to Mark 4: 35- 41, one day, when evening had come, Jesus said to His disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took Him along, just as He was, in the boat. There were also other boats with Him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.
Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Peace! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!”
What a God! Master over man and beast, Master over all spirits, and now Master over the elements too? Wonderful God!
You see, as these experienced fishermen battled against the storm, He slept on a cushion; unperturbed nor wanting. He has so much peace to be bothered by the fiercest storm.
When eventually they invited Him into the situation, He calmed the battering storm at His Word. And what did He say? “PEACE BE STILL! As soon as He rebuked the elements, the wind died down and it was completely calm.
In your life time, dearly beloved, just desire to walk with Him. You don’t need to fully understand His ways, but just to know He is God and can do all things. He will effortlessly rebuke all the storms that would rise against you in this year and beyond, until perfect peace is restored in your life.
Forget about helping Him with your knowledge to get you through your storm; you honestly cannot. This great God works in ways we cannot even see. His rescue strategy is yet to be discovered and understood by the natural principles that govern our universe. How can you help Him then? All He requires is that you stick closer to Him and trust in His Word.
Meditate on this word and begin to pray. Commit all things into the hands of God Almighty, even those ones that have persisted with time. Actually, the arm that keeps you through this year is a Mighty One. Do not worry about the turbulence that can be; focus on the great God you are journeying with. FOR EVEN THE WINDS AND WAVES OBEY HIM.
Today is the first Sunday of the year, see you at church then.
