Topic: The World & Its Desires!
Text: 1 John 2: 17
17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. Amen
Everything around us can be so inviting; yes everything! The cars, building, fashion, music, dance, movies, drinks, titles, casinos, sports, intellectualism, modernity, sophistication, the “smart this” and “smart that”. These are all things that intrigue young people. WE COULD EVEN OWN THE WORLD AND STILL WON’T GET SATISFIED BECAUSE, DAY IN AND DAY OUT, NEW AND BETTER VERSIONS OF ALL THINGS ARTIFICIAL ARE BEING DEVELOPED.
The question however is, where are we going with all these cravings and desires? What are the motives behind these cravings? Think deeply about it.
These days it’s even dangerous to bless a fellow believer by saying, ” MAY GOD GRANT YOU THE DESIRES OF YOUR HEART!” This is because if God was to show you the desires in the heart of the fellow Christian brother/ sister you are blessing, it would amaze you. Lately, very little godliness is desired. All we eat, drink and live for is materialism. The things that make us feel good about ourselves and cause others to glorify us. We do not care about what the will of God is or might be. We do not care about humanity and posterity. We do not care about eternity. Just the worldly possessions, passions and cravings. We do not care about the salvation of the soul.
But you see, this world and its desires passes away, sooner than later. Those who do the will of God will abide forever. Why don’t you seek therefore, the kingdom of God and its righteousness first, so that, what you receive from God is sustained unto eternity because it was given according to His will? Otherwise you may gather by worldly standards, possessions that may either not stand the test of time or sway you completely away from God.
Remember, “the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and EVERYTHING DONE IN IT will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? YOU OUGHT TO LIVE HOLY AND GODLY LIVES” (2 Peter 3: 10- 11).
Begin to pray now; that the love of Christ will control your passions and desires, aligning them to the Word and Will of God. That way, you are blessed with whatever “little” or “much” the Lord gifts you with and will remain blessed unto eternity.
