Today’s Devotion
Topic: The Wise and Foolish Builders!
Text: Mat 7: 24- 27.
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Amen.
We are all builders! Whatever we are, do or say, contributes to the structure we’re building. The cost of building is high such that, it remains the aim of every builder to see his building stand the test of time and remain strong for years to come.
Some builders are wise! They know that to a large extent, the secret to having a strong structure lies within the foundation. They would rather build their lives on the WORD OF GOD (ROCK), which is the best foundation freely gifted to all who desire to build something eternal.
Some other builders are foolish! They build on human philosophies, ideologies and principles (SAND). They hear the WORD OF GOD anyway but they don’t live by it. They want the freedom the world gives until they realise there is no freedom in the world after all.
Honestly, every man has the liberty to build on either foundations. No one can stop your decision. The only thing to bear in mind is the rains; yes the rains (trouble)! THEY WILL COME! They will hit so hard against your structure. If you built on THE ROCK, then you are safe. But if not, everything you toiled to raise will come crumbling down with a great crush.
Don’t wait till these inevitable rains tear your house apart. Build on THE ROCKY FOUNDATION, base all your decisions, desires and actions on the Word of God. “It will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity (Prov 3: 2).
Meditate on this and begin to pray. The rains are coming, change your building strategy now that the sun shines. Choose the Rock for foundation, all other ground is sinking sand.
