The True Source Of Promotion

Today’s Devotion
Topic: The True Source Of Promotion
Text: Psalm 75: 6- 7

6 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. 7 But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. Amen

The act or fact of being raised in position or rank can be termed as promotion. It is also, the act of furthering the growth or development of something.

Life is arranged in tiers and levels. The rankings differ from one sphere of life to another but the fact remains that we are all not at the same level. There are many higher than us and many lower than us.

Now, when one has fulfilled the expectations of his level of operation, he naturally expects to be raised to a higher level with newer challenges and better rewards. He also hopes that each of these promotions go a long way to confirm his competence and prove his worth to colleagues and peers. The challenge here is that, although the processes that nominate and confirm our promotion are put together by man, actual promotions are conferred by God.

He is our truest judge and competent “evaluator”. He raises one and puts down another. When He qualifies you for promotion, none can deny it. When He says “advance”, none can counter-cross his decree and make us retrogress. So do the best you can to fulfil all diligence and righteousness wherever you find yourself. Being careful to do all things as unto God, especially in your quest towards the mark of the next level.

Do not fret or complain when man does not recognise your efforts. He is both human and limited. As a matter of fact, he does not order your promotion but God.

One day very soon, when God has ordered your promotion, none can do anything about it. Those who oppose it will be in contempt of the courts of heaven. Many of such opposers will have to be displaced if they keep obstructing Heaven’s decree over your life. Remember how Haman was displaced to make way for Mordecai’s promotion? (Esther 5, 6 &7).

In that same way, all who desire promotion must desist from cutting corners and wait on the Lord. Why should anyone offer their souls to the devil for promotion? Why should anyone offer their bodies sexually for promotion? Why should anyone undermine, backbite or even “eliminate” a superior just to take his/ her position? Why should anyone condone evil just to be promoted?
Is there not a Great God in heaven who sees through the hearts of men? Will He not reward us according to our deeds?

Meditate on the above and begin to pray with the hymn “Lord lift me up and let me stand by faith on heaven’s table land”. Ask for grace to strive for excellence towards all you do. Ask also for patience to wait for God’s own time of elevation because the race is not for the swift nor the battle for the strong; it is God who shows mercy.
