Topic: The Tree of The Lord!
Text: Psalm 104: 16- 17
16 The trees of the LORD are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. 17 There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the junipers. Amen
Unlike other plants, trees have deep roots that search deep beneath the earth for water and other essential nutrients. For this reason a tree may endure an entire dry season because its food and water supply are not dependent on the atmospheric conditions of the location it finds itself.
To say a tree is WELL WATERED then is to say this tree has all that is possibly needed to live, blossom, grow tall and strong, and become the haven for other creatures. The ‘watering’ puts all the needed elements for growth at its disposal. It also allows for easy absorption and photosynthesis. All these, coupled with their ability to reach deep for supply even if the external conditions are not favourable, make such trees so strong and blessed.
Now, the Bible describes two categories of men as being like trees that are planted by the waters (or trees that are well watered). The One whose delight is in the law of the Lord and the one whose trust is in God not man.
i. Delight In The Law:
“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.” (Psalm 1: 1-3).
ii. Trust Being In The Lord:
“This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” (Jer 17: 5- 8).
Do you now see the blessing in not walking in the steps of the wicked but rather meditating on God’s word day and night? Do you also see the blessing in trusting only in God and not mere flesh?
In a world where all men have a choice to either be like the “grass of the field” (which is today, and tomorrow is no more), or well watered tress of the Lord (which abides and endures forever), ask yourself which of the two would YOU rather be?
If you desire to be a ‘well watered’ tree of the Lord, then begin to pray right now. Ask the Lord to deliver you from following in the steps of the wicked and from standing in the way of sinners; so you can make His word your delight. Also ask for grace not to put your trust in man but God.
Now, get ready to flourish like the cedar of Lebanon. Get ready to blossom so strong, tall and wide; for mighty great ‘well watered’ tree is springing within you right now. One which is not afraid of the heat or drought. One whose leaves never whither. “WHATEVER YOU DO WILL PROSPER”, saith the Lord.
