Topic: The Perfect Example!
Topic: John 13:14
“If I then, your Lord and teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.” Amen
In this text, we read of Jesus, washing the feet of His disciples during their last supper with Him. Knowing very well that His time on earth was limited, He (Jesus) decided to demonstrate one of His most important pillars of faith before He departs.
He played the role of a servant, washing the feet of His own followers and instructed that we do same for one another.
Dearly Beloved, the Lord Jesus with all His glory and majesty, did not consider it shameful or demeaning to serve His disciples, even to the point of washing their feet. Not some of them, BUT ALL (YES ALL). Including Peter who was unwilling because He did not yet understand why the Master should play the role of a servant.
Why then, do we find it so difficult to serve one another? And if we will serve, why do we lord over our followers like the heathens do? And even those who try very hard not to lord over others, often times struggle to be impartial. Think about it.
We are often too particular about our social status and class, hence find it very difficult to be humane towards one another. However, this powerful demonstration by Christ should silence our every excuse from today. For if He, being the greatest of all, served by washing the dirtiest part of the body for His servants, why shouldn’t we?
Decide to follow the example of Jesus and begin from today. We may not be perfect, but like Paul, we could strive towards perfection. Bring yourself out of your comfort zone today and follow Christ’s example. We are His own if we will learn from Him to practice.
