Topic: The Lord Our Banner
Text: Psalm 134: 2
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the LORD. Amen!
The Amalekites attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.”
So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.
When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up — one on one side, one on the other — so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.”
Moses built an altar and called it “The Lord is my Banner.” He said, “Because hands were lifted up against the throne of the Lord, the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.” (Exo 17: 8- 16)
Beloved, the lifting of our hands is a sign of total surrender; and in this battle, Moses who was the leader of the army of God, surrendered completely to the One whose battle this was. And as long as his hands were lifted and the staff of authority with it, Israel was winning.
It is about time we yielded our all to God and got Him fighting our battles too; don’t you think so? The battle actually belongs to Him. Every battle that seeks to confront you each day is not against you per say, but your God. Foul hands are lifted against the throne of our God with each attack they project at you.
This is how: you see, some people lift up their hands in surrender to the enemy so satan uses them to destroy the people of God. In that same vain, once we, the people of God, surrender completely to Jehovah and let Him lead our battles, WE WIN.
Moses lifted the staff of authority too, so it is that in our lives as we lift our hands up, we must lift up the Word of God with it — that is our staff of authority. We keep those two exalted in our lives and help each other raise those two so high too, until victory is won. Then we celebrate the LORD AS OUR BANNER (JEHOVAH NISSI).
Meditate on this word and begin to pray. Surrender your all to God and ask that He fights your battles. Also by prayer, support the hands of other believers whose surrendered hands are getting weak, just as Aaron and Hur aided the hands of Moses up high till sunset.
You see how no one folds up a banner on battlefield, but rather lifts it so high for all to see and know who they are representing on the field? In that same vain, the banner of authority we carry is the Lord our God. When we lift up our hands in total surrender, and exalt His Word in our lives, we have actually lifted our God up to fight each of our battles to victory.
JEHOVAH NISSI NEVER FAILS, IT IS OUR DUTY NOT TO EVER FORGET THAT! See you at church.
