Topic: Take Heed.
Text: 1 Corinthians 10:12
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. Amen
When Jesus was on the cross, a lot of sarcasm was thrown at him. For instance in Luke 23: 39, the criminal who was crucified with Him told Him blatantly, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself – and us, too, while you’re at it!
However, a few chapters before, Jesus was the wonder of the day; healing the sick, casting demons, and forgiving sins.
Job also had his fair share of being both celebrated and down trodden at different times of his life. He was at a point, one of the richest in his times. But when everything turned against him, his trusted friends said to him; “As I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same” (Job 4:8).
The reality is, even as Christians, sometimes we are tempted to believe the reason fellow Christians fall into hardship(s) is because they may have sinned and justify ourselves as righteous because we are not in such hardship(s).
However, God admonishes us- our righteousness is not based on self acclaimed good deeds. While we enjoy the Grace, let us not forget that our Father permits “bad things” to happen also to good people to test their faith, strengthen their dependence on Him (God) and (or) produce patience in them.
Therefore, to he who thinketh immunity to sin and to trials, let him take heed lest he falls. Pray for the grace to stand. Not by your own righteousness and strength; but to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might (Ephes 6: 10). Also, ask for the grace and wisdom to encourage others when they need the assurances of God most in their times of tribulation.
It really could be you or anybody close to you. Except God has promised never to leave us nor forsake us so we know that when we pass through the waters, God promises to be with us; and when we pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over us. When we walk through the fire, we will not be burned; the flames will not set us ablaze (Is 43: 2).
Therefore have faith in the Lord’s ability to keep us standing even through the storm. IT IS IN HIM WE STAND, NOT BY OUR OWN STRENGTH OR RIGHTEOUSNESS, BUT BY THE POWER OF HIS NAME . THE VERY ROCK UPON WHICH WE STAND; NEVER TO FALL AGAIN.
