Study, Practise & Teach It

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Study, Practise & Teach It
Text: Ezra 7: 10

For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the LORD and to practice it, and to teach His statutes and ordinances in Israel. Amen

Every day’s labour and toil is also a search. We just happen to be searching for more than we have attained and known through experience; something that satisfies the soul, not just ego.

Those who discover the only truth that really satisfies the soul, totally devote themselves to it and live by it too. If they are not selfish, they automatically begin to teach others too. As far as they are concerned, everyone must taste of this special bread that grows the spirit unto eternity.

This is exactly what happened to Ezra. Once he discovered the Word of God as the sole food for the soul, he set his heart to study it more, practice it better and even teach others what it says.

He could not hide his joy and passion to know more and live by it because in the process of study, you discover that:
“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb” (Psalm 19: 7-8, 10).

What about you, dear friend? How much of the Word do you desire for your soul every day? How determined are you to practice what you learn? How passionate are you about teaching the Word to others? Think about this, for Heaven and earth will pass away, but the Word of God abides forever (Mat 24: 35).

Like Ezra, desire this word more than anything. For “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers” (Ps 1-3).

Begin to pray therefore, that there may be a hunger within for God’s word; the willingness to obey its precepts and the passion to share for the benefit of others too. This word is both spirit and life (John 6: 63), yea and amen (2 Cor 1: 20), hammer and fire (Jer 23: 29), alive and active, shaper than a two edged sword (Heb 4: 12), lamp to our feet and light to our path (Ps 119: 105).

More to be desired are they than gold. Those who feed on it, grow more beautiful and stronger in faith as the days go by. They are blessed here on earth even as they wait patiently to spend eternity with our Lord and Saviour Jesus. Don’t starve the soul to death anymore, feed on the word!
