Sober Judgments

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Sober Judgments
Text: Romans 12: 3

3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. Amen

It has been said to us not to look down on anyone unless we are admiring their shoes. That is true but its opposite is equally true. That is, we must not think ourselves more highly than we ought.

Man is created sovereign yet absolutely dependent on the CREATOR. It is a mystery! On the one hand, it seems we are in charge of our destinies and on the other, we are like the “flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone” (Psalm 103: 15b- 16a)

Apostle Paul asked the church in Corinth: “… who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not? (1 Corinthians 4: 7)

Honestly, all we are and are able to do is by the benevolence of God. He gives us dominion over all other things created and the power to get wealth. It is He we must think highly of and not ourselves. We are but the sheep of His pasture. Able to walk only when He holds our hands.

With this sober judgement of ourselves, we will not be found guilty of pride before our maker or fellow man. We will not be conceited or complacent with the strides we have made so far.

We will not look down on others as though we were better than them- when as a matter of fact, God created us all unique to complement each other. We will still depend absolutely on God for the grace to carry on according to the measure of faith given to us.

Why should we think highly of ourselves than we ought? We are not our own, we belong to Christ. It is HIM we live, move and have our being. Meditate on this word and begin to pray. Ask that the humility of Christ takes over your pride and complacency. Watch and be blessed: https://youtu.be/SbErg2w4_Fs
