Seize Every Opportunity!

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Seize Every Opportunity!
Text: Mark 2: 1- 2, 13- 14

1 A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that He had come home. 2 They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and He preached the word to them.

13 Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to Him, and He began to teach them. 14 As He walked along, He saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed Him. Amen

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus what a wonderful Saviour He is! He was committed to the reason He came on earth to the latter. He seized every opportunity to preach the Word and make disciples. He enters His home in Capernaum and a large crowd gathers around Him. He takes advantage of their visit to preach the word to them.

From there, He takes a stroll around the lake and a large crowd gather again. He begins to teach them as well. Walking along the street, He sees Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collectors’ booth. He makes a disciple of him with these simple words: “Follow Me”. Immediately Levi gets up and follows Him. That evening, while having dinner in Levi’s house, many of his colleague tax collectors join in, to the amazement of the Pharisees (Mark 2: 14- 17). Thus through Levi, He wins many more of his kind for God.

What about you beloved? How determined are you in fulfilling the great commission of GOING to the ends of the world and MAKING disciples of all men? A start from home, through the community, to the office or school, and you will be harvesting many souls for God. The only problem is that you don’t do it.

Honestly, you often struggle with the idea. It feels quite demeaning to be seen by friends and colleagues preaching the word in public. So you tell yourself “I prefer to evangelise “one-on-one” so I’ll start tomorrow.” Yet you don’t. It just feels awkward to you that a believer with your kind of ‘pedigree’ in society should be seen talking about his faith.

Well, Jesus looks on, but without His usual smile and radiance. Of the much that He is and has been to you, how can you not even testify of His love that others might be saved too? How much work is that and how much will that take from you if you did?

Meditate on this word and begin to pray. Ask the Lord to give you the Spirit of Boldness to take advantage of the least opportunity to preach His word where ever He leads you. He has already said enough when He says “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in Heaven” (Mat 10: 32- 33).

Think deeply about this. Soul winning is not an option we have, but a COMMAND! Also, tell the Pastor who takes advantage of large crowds to extort and exploit innocent people yearning for redemption; to learn from Jesus’ example and preach the word; because, judgement will begin from the house of God (1 Peter 4:17) and “the servant who knows the Master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the Master wants will be beaten with many blows (Luke 12: 47). JESUS IS COMING SOON! See you at church.
