Ahab said to Naboth, “Let me have your vineyard to use for a vegetable garden, since it is close to my palace. In exchange I will give you a better vineyard or, if you prefer, I will pay you whatever it is worth.” But Naboth replied, “The Lord forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my ancestors.” Amen
The king of Israel had all that pertained to good life at his disposal yet he wanted the inheritance of Naboth. But you see, Naboth inherited this farm from his fathers and was hoping to hand it over to his own children too. So He replied the king “God Forbid”!
This King, Ahab, asked to use Naboth’s vineyard for a vegatable garden and offered give him a far better vineyard. Now apart from the fact that vineyards had more worth and value than vegetable gardens, the king also failed to realise SOME THINGS ARE SO PRECIOUS AND PRICELESS. You can not place market value on them and exchange for a better deal.
Our inheritance in Christ is the salvation we have receive through the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus, our sonship to God and God’s promise of eternal life. Do we really cherish and protect these gifts of grace?
Mostly, we trade these priceless gifts for perishable and temporal pleasures. Our love for a better life here on earth makes us compromise our faith to feed our selfish gains. Naboth could have accepted any other vineyard, but that could never have been the same as the Inheritance received from his forefathers. That one had been handed over from generations. It bore the FAMILY LEGACY.
Reject any pressure to cause you to compromise so that you loss or exchange your inheritance in Christ.
Tell whatever it is that entices you to trade your place in God for anything else that “God forbid!”. Begin to pray.
See you soon at church. COME AND WORK OUT YOUR SALVATION, IT IS YOUR GREATEST INHERITANCE.
