PRAYER: The Antidote For Trouble!

Topic: PRAYER: The Antidote For Trouble!
Text: James 5: 13a

13a Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Amen

Trials can be so heavy that when they do occur, these three reactions are the most easily employed, even by believers.

  1. Blame Others: Beloved, more often than not, the first thing we do when confronted with a challenge is to look around for who to blame. It might just feel comforting to know someone else is responsible for all the trouble that surround us. Even though that may not actually be the case and we know that.
  2. Appeal To Pity: Right after blaming others, we look around for those who will sympathize with us. The reason is to have them nurture pity for our situation and help us blame the others for putting us through such distress.

Honestly, we are not really bothered even if some of them only pretend to sympathize just to get more updates about your lives. So long as they show pity and help us blame all else but ourselves for what we going through, we feel much better. Unfortunately though, sympathizers sometimes leave us worse than we were before talking to them.

  1. Give Excuses: Now that we feel worse of than before, you will realise how much we begin to use our difficult situation, as the perfect excuse for missing out on productivity in life. “After all, the one who is to blame, is the reason why everything else is going downhill. There is nothing to do,” we tell ourselves.

Beloved, sadly enough, none of the above helps in the face of adversity. They may even aggravate the situation and kill our confidence in God’s ability to deliver. Apostle James puts together a solution for all our problems in the simplest form. He writes: “IS ANYONE AMONG YOU IN TROUBLE? LET THEM PRAY!

Preciouse One, PRAYER is strength to the believer. It allows him/ her access to the throne room where we trade our troubles for victory. There in the throne room, we can lay it all down at the feet of Jesus and pick up righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost (Romans 14: 17).

*RIGHTEOUSNESS: The assurance that we are blessed because we belong to God and are partakers of His divine nature through the sacrifice of Christ. Jesus’ blood justifies us and His righteousness, our vindication. All that is His is ours if we believe.

*PEACE: That great sense of calm even as the tempest roll. This is the kind of peace that surpasses all understanding. The feeling of knowing God is Able to accomplish all which concerns us, so that we can trust Him to fix this problem too.

*JOY: the assurance that God can and has already solved the problem can generate such unspeakable joy that others might even find offensive. Glory to God!

Beloved, today begins a new day, “don’t be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4: 6- 7).

Begin to pray now! Pray until you see the word of God fulfilled in your life. For the end to your problems begins when you pray.
