Topic: Pharaoh Will Know That I Am God! (Part 6)

Background:
This whole week, we have been analysing Exodus chapter 14 to extract as many hidden truth’s there in as revealed by the Holy Spirit.
Yesterday, we learnt that the Lord commanded Moses his servant to raise his staff and stretch out his hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites could go through the sea on dry ground. Moses obeyed, and God caused the miraculous to happen just as He had said it would.
But will that cause Pharaoh to return? What is he going to do, now that Israel has crossed to the other side? For answers to these and more, let us zoom into today’s discussion.
Text: Exodus 14: 23- 31
23 The Egyptians pursued them, and all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and horsemen followed them into the sea. 24 During the last watch of the night the Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion. 25 He jammed the wheels of their chariots so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said, “Let’s get away from the Israelites! The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt.”
26 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen.” 27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place. The Egyptians were fleeing towards it, and the Lord swept them into the sea. 28 The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived.
29 But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. 30 That day the Lord saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. 31 And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in Him and in Moses His servant. Amen
Questions:
1. Kindly read verses 23 and 24 again:
i) Why do you think God intervened during “the last watch of the night”?
ii) Could that have seemed like eternity to Israel who probably felt very uncomfortable about Pharaoh pursuing them through the sea too?
iii) What can we learn from this?
2. According to verses 24b—25:
i) What was the Lord’s first intervention the moment all the Egyptians got into the dry ground of the sea?
ii) How do you think the Egyptians could tell that Israel’s great God was fighting on her behalf?
iii) How come even the enemy can tell that God is fighting on our behalf, but not we who are His? How often do we doubt His abilities till He proves us wrong entirely, again?
3. How wonderful are verses 26—29 to you, and why?
4. According to verses 30—31, what did Israel realise had happened to Pharaoh and his army by the next day, and how did they react to such a wondrous deliverance?
5. What have you learnt from this day’s Bible study?
