Our Help!

Topic: Our Help!
Text: Psalm 60: 11

11 Give us aid against the enemy, for the help of man is worthless.Amen

To help, is to make it easier or possible for (someone) to do something by offering them one’s services or resources.

Beloved, it feels so good to be aided through life. Appropriate assistance brings such a relief and joy. It helps us achieve more with better results. It takes some burden off us and enables us to hope for better days to come.

You see, the issues of life can be overbearing for an individual, family or nation. The currents of life can sweep a strong person off his feet and leave him gasping for breath in pity. Unable to swim or float, he can only cry for help. But the question, is from whom?

Lately everyone would rather another help them than vice versa. We all pretend to lack help so that another person does not look unto us. In that same vein, some others pretend to need a kind of assistance that they actually do not need so as to get more than a few. Even those who genuinely want to help, may be limited in one way or another. So then, whence shall our help come from?

One day, Ben-Hadad (king of Aram) mobilized his entire army and marched up and laid siege against Samaria. There was a great famine in the city; the siege lasted so long that, a donkey’s head was sold for 80 shekels of silver and a quarter of a cab of seed pods for 5 shekels. As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried to him, “Help me, my lord the king!” The king replied, “If the Lord does not help you, where can I get help for you? From the threshing floor? From the winepress?” (2 Kings 6: 24- 26)

Beloved, our help is only found in the name of the Lord. The help of man is worthless unless inspired by God. It is to Him endless prayer is made. All our petitions, hopes, worries, anxieties and burdens to Him we lay. He is strong to bear them all, wise to handle them all, gentle to carry us through and faithful to keep us to the end.

He gives us favour before men and causes them to help us- that kind of help is sustainable and unconditional. He enables them to assist us in times of difficulty for His own name’s sake, and not because we merit it nor for their own interest.

Lift up your voice right now and begin to pray. Ask God to help you pass the test of life and the test of faith. Ask Him to lead the way and prepare helpers for you and give you favour before their eyes. Our help comes from the Lord, Maker of heaven and earth.
