Topic: Obstacles To Success
Text: Mark 10: 49-50
Jesus stopped and said, “Call him”. So they called to the blind man, “cheer up” on your feet! He is calling you. Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. Amen!
In the healing and miracle process of God, He always requires OUR involvement. If you are seeking for healing, He requires that you believe He can do it.
Like blind man Bartimaeus, all Jesus required from him was to get to his feet and walk to Him. But Bartimaeus later realized an obstacle to his healing- ‘his cloak’ and had to throw it aside.
There are many things that prevent us from achieving our success or life vision. One of such to be looked at is SIN. In Hebrews 12: 1, the Bible admonishes us to throw off every weight, and the sin that so easily entangle us so we can run with perseverance the race marked for us.
Another obstacle to our success in life is ‘people’. The people around us can either make or unmake us. These people are called ‘vision killers’ who can be so close to us as the cloak of Bartimaeus. We must therefore know well the kinds of people we roll with and the fellowship we have with them.
Finally, Bartimaeus never knew the cloak which was giving him warmth and comfort was an obstacle to him. Beware of the things that you think give you comfort and yet do not motivate us to higher levels. Sleep is one, procrastination is another. Living in past glory is one, present wealth and achievements is another; as well as being overly dependent on the promises of others.
Begin to pray right now! Ask God to open your eyes to identify the various obstacles to your success and grant you the grace to ward them off so you can be free to see again.
To heal is never a problem for the Master Healer, but are we willing to trust Him for the healing and to lay aside the weights and sin that easily beset us?
Blind man Bartimaeus, got on his own feet, laid aside his heavy (and perhaps dirty) cloak and walked to Jesus in faith, to be healed. You too rise above the obstacles you see, take practical steps in Christ, towards your goal.
