Topic: Obey To Be On Top!
Text: Deuteronomy 28: 13
The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. Amen
The scripture above is one of the most quoted among believers. Especially by students, preparing for exams, and workers who are praying for promotion. But you see, only a few, quote the entire verse. The rest are only interested in being the “head and not tail”; and at the “top and never below” part.
As we can see, however, the text above is conditional; a benefit for all who pay attention to the commands of the Lord and CAREFULLY follow them.
Beloved, the Lord wills you at the top where He can use your story, struggles and faith, to tell others of His love and ability to save. Another reason why the Lord wills you at the top is to brighten your life.
Yet, all His blessings are already enshrined in His Word. In obeying His Word, you walk straight into your higher blessings without struggle. However, when we disregard scripture and begin to live anyhow, we are unable to access the blessings in His Word because we have not heeded to its dictates.
Besides, what becomes our use at the top to the Lord, if we are full of self and give Him no room to use our lives for His glory?
Maybe it’s time to stop praying to be the head and concentrate on heeding to the Word of God. In the Word, we will find the wisdom, grace, love and strength to locate the ladder that leads upwards. Otherwise, we will climb up the ladder of life on our own and have no firm bases to sustain ourselves there. The least shake up brings us tumbling down in a mighty fall.
Begin to pray with the hymn “trust and obey”. Ask for grace to hunger after God’s Word and live by it. Those who do so, rise above every storm in their lives to soar heights that even eagles don’t dare. Pay attention to God’s Word and be on top, never below!
