Topic: Not Yet Time For Comfort!
Text: Numbers 32:1-2, 4-7
1 The Reubenites and Gadites, who had very large herds and flocks, saw that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for livestock. 2 So they came to Moses and Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the community, and said, 4 the land the LORD subdued before the people of Israel–are suitable for livestock, and your servants have livestock. 5 If we have found favor in your eyes,” they said, “let this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan.”
6 Moses said to the Gadites and Reubenites, “Shall your countrymen go to war while you sit here? 7 Why do you discourage the Israelites from going over into the land the LORD has given them? Amen
In our quest to achieve greater and higher heights in life, we usually get to a level that looks like the final destination because it feels comfortable, but it is not. The disciples of Jesus had a similar experience in their walk with the Saviour:
“After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
Peter said to Jesus, “LORD, IT IS GOOD FOR US TO BE HERE. If you wish, I will put up three shelters–one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (Matthew 17:1-4).
We mostly feel so comfortable with less zeal to continue the journey to higher grounds when we get to an oasis we least expected to find. But beloved, God is not done with you yet. There is more to achieve ahead. God had promised to give the Land of Canaan to Israel; the land that flows with honey. No other destination was ever going to compare.
Many of us are at a transitional stage in life but are feeling so comfortable already; in fact, too comfortable to move ahead to the promised land. Our current position in the office, level of education, jobs, marital blessings, financial situation, etc, form a part of the process aiding our daily steps towards the promise land. They are all part of the means to the end but not the end in themselves.
Therefore, do not feel too comfortable to move camp to a higher destination. God once said to the Istaelites, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain. Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites; go to all the neighboring peoples in the Arabah, in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the Euphrates. See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land that the LORD swore he would give to your fathers–to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob–and to their descendants after them (Deut 1: 6-8).”
Press on toward the goal, so that you may win the prize for which God has called us. Begin to pray now. Ask for the zeal to keep on keeping on even with the odds against you. Always remember Jesus walks beside us through this journey to lighten every load. He is not only the WAY and the LIGHT that brightens the way, He is also our DESTINATION.
