Topic: Not All Help Is Useful!
Text: Ezra 4: 1- 3
1 Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the Lord God of Israel, 2 Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.
3 But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the Lord God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us. Amen
To HELP is to make easier or possible for (someone) to do something by offering them one’s services or resources. Everyone of us can appreciate some HELP through life but not all offers of HELP are useful. They may be deadly traps.
The basic reason is that, often, the beneficiary of help feels both grateful and indebted to the “help-provider”, making the former vulnerable to manipulations. Also, the easiest way an enemy can get closer to an individual or nation and destroy them from within is by offering the HELP they need most. Once the doors are opened for the enemy, all his schemes will be implemented.
Now, when the enemies of Judah and Benjamin went to Zerubbabel and to the chief of the fathers to offer a helping hand in the building of the temple, Zerubbabel rejected their help. This was because their motives were wrong, they lied about a relationship with God which they honestly never had. It was a trap.
Beloved, not all HELP is useful. Some are traps to invite the enemy in, to destroy from within. Led by the Holy Ghost, let us all learn to reject any form of ungodly HELP conditioned to make us lose our position in Christ. Zerubabbel told the enemies, “ye have nothing to do with us to build a house unto our God, we ourselves TOGETHER will build unto the Lord God of Israel.”
