Text: Hebrews 9:27 (NKJV)
27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment. Amen.
In academia, it is expected that a student passes all prerequisites before allowed to graduate. Today, there are countless examining bodies that award professional certificates in all disciplines of academia.
However, not everybody is able to get things right the first time. Many will attesest to the fact that they’ve had to write some examinations several times before meeting the expected grade for graduation. For some, it was due to laziness at studies; to some others; ignorance and yet to some more people, genuine challenges related to answering questions.
Which ever way, the standard are never lowered. One is always expected to pass and for this reason, opportunities are provided for students to retake examinations several times till they pass.
How ever, in real life, every man lives just once. We write “the exam of life” just once. There are no resits. So the bible rightly puts it that “it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment”.
Sadly, we live our lives with a blind eye completely turned to this fact; the fact that God will judge every man according to his deeds while he lived. The truth is that, if we miss heaven, we sure wont miss hell.
The good news however is that God does not take pleasure in anyone perishing. “Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?” says the Lord God, “and not that he should turn from his ways and live? – Ezekiel 18:23
He loves us dearly. So, to you who has never heard of the love of God; His love is great and genuine to forgive. To you who has wandered away from God; come home. Jesus is still calling.
Many on their death beds have suddenly realized that Jesus was real the whole time. “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them” – Ecc. 12:1
Begin to pray and ask Jesus into your life if He isn’t already there. He knocks gently. Also pray for all those who are yet to come to the saving knowledge of Christ. Ask Jesus to use your conduct, speech and thought to witness His love to the lost.
Souls are parting to eternity, soul are parting as we speak today. Souls are parting as the days go by, but how many really will die in Christ? How many really will live again? Reach out now!
