Today’s Devotion
Topic: My Rock of Refuge
Text: Psalm 71:3
Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. Amen
Life is such that at times, we long for a place where we could “hide” from all the perils and challenges that confront us on daily basis. In such times, the believer’s first resort should be heartfelt, fervent prayer.
In today’s passage, the psalmist was uttering a heartfelt prayer to God Almighty because he had reached a point where even his enemies had said, “God has forsaken him; pursue him and seize him, for no one will rescue him.” (Psalm 71:11)
Instead of agreeing with his enemies, he prayed; “In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. 2 Rescue me and deliver me in your righteousness; turn your ear to me and save me. 3 Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. 4 Deliver me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of evil and cruel men.
5 For you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth. 6 From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother’s womb. I will ever praise you… 10 For my enemies speak against me; those who wait to kill me conspire together.” (Psalm 71:1-6, 10)
Our God is a refuge we can always run to. He will give the command to save us if we do not relent in trusting Him to see us through. He is our hope that never disappoints. In the end, He will come through for you and you will say with the psalmist that; “My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendour all day long.” (Psalm 71:8)
