Mind Your Heart

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Mind Your Heart
Text: Proverbs 4: 23

23 Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Amen!

Our text for meditation this morning instructs us to protect/guard our hearts with careful and persistent effort. Don’t we just love taking everything to heart even if it is unwholesome? Anytime life’s challenges knock us down, we take it to heart. When we get disappointed, we take it to heart. In fact we allow everything to hurt and discourage us till the heart bleeds from pain.

Meanwhile out of this same heart comes the issues of life; the very mechanism that keeps us going. The joy that keeps us hearty when we should be sorrowful, the strength that helps us carry on when we should faint, the hope that urges us to be the best we can and so on. Anything unwholesome allowed in, breaks our flow and slows us down.

You see, we live in a world where disappointments, trials and problems are inevitable. Being a Christian does not in any way mean a challenge-free life, however as the Lights of this dark world, we must turn out better after going through these challenges.

How do we deal with the pain of disappointments and trials? Do we let the unpleasant experience remain in our hearts or we let them out? We may not always be able to prevent them from entering in, but we can definitely send them out where they came from by the power of the Holy Ghost.

Why don’t we often do so to free the heart from all the unwanted materials? Well, we do not because we naturally like to brood over painful occurrences until they get registered in our minds. They become a part of our long term memory and we get a continuous playback of them.

It could even get to that point where the direction and the quality of our lives are dictated by these past experiences. So we get bitter about everything, become doubtful and fearful, and at worse dislike people without cause.

Even when we have sometimes heard God clearly telling us to shut the door to the past experiences, we just want to keep on brooding and telling everyone about our issues. However brooding never makes us better, it will only create deep scars. Therefore stand on the authority in the Word of God and get rid of the negativity from your past.

Allow this same word access into your heart, to uproot every seed the enemy has sown in your heart. Hand your heart over to the Lord. He can keep it better than you could ever do. Ask Him to make your heart His home, the place He delights to be. A wonderful change will come all over you.

Therefore “Do not [earnestly] remember the former things; neither consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive and know it and will you not give heed to it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert (Is 43: 18- 19 Amp).

Beloved, embrace the new thing God is about doing in your life, the fresh beginnings He is giving you right now. It is a marvelous thing. You are no longer the same as you use to be.
See you at church.
