Today’s Devotion
Topic: Make no room for the devil!
Text: Ephesians 4: 27
and do not give the devil a foothold. Amen
By virtue of Christ’s victory on the cross, we are no longer subject to the flesh and the things that come with it. The irony however is that, we occassionally struggle to walk as children of the light and slip away into exhibiting the characteristics of the old self.
In our daily dealings with each other and the world’s systems, we often come across situations that entice us to respond in ways that we would not have because of who we are and what we stand for in Christ. The temptation to compromise our faith is always strong when we have a strong quest to please others and “fit in”or an unstoppable drive to satisfy our selfish desires.
It is best to note however that each compromise to sin, not only invites the devil in but also empowers him to destroy as much as he can within the shortest possible time; leaving us totally backsliden from the God we love, yet keeping us under his bondage until deliverance comes.
Beloved, all the devil needs is just an inch of space in the life of the believer and he will cause so much destruction or at least, bring up chaos among brethren. A little anger, a little unforgiveness; a little procastination, a little lie or exaggeration, some lustful cravings here and there; and satan will be pulling us gradually from the light of God into the dark where he dwells.
Therefore, since we are not ignorant of the devil’s devices, it remains unpardonable to let him even have a foothold in any aspects of our lives. Rather, put on the whole amour of God to resist his attacks (Ephesians 6: 10- 18). Also, “walk by the Spirit, so you do not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want (Galatians 5: 16- 17 ).
“Walk by the Spirit”, simply means allowing the fullness of the Holy Spirit to dwell in you so that He can work the goodwill of the Father through you. The effect will be that you will bear the fruit of love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law (Galatians 5: 22 -23). Then you can say with Christ that “…the prince of this world (satan) is coming. But He has no hold over me (John 14:30).
Begin to pray now. Ask for the infilling of the Holy Spirit so He can empower and grant you the enablement to stand strong when the firery darts of the enemy are thrown towards you to cause you to compromise.
Also pray for the desire to imbibe more of God’s word which is able to nourish you to grow more and more into the image of Christ with each passing day. See you at church! Kindly click, watch and be blessed: https://youtu.be/_KIF01Ix6Lw
