“But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.” AMEN
Today begins a three day series on the topic “LOVE YOUR ENEMIES!” We will discuss who our enemies are, Why we should love them and how we can love them.
WHO ARE OUR ENEMIES?:
One of the most challenging commands given to us by our Lord Jesus Christ is to love our enemies.
An enemy in simple terms refers to the person who is hostile towards others, feels hatred or opposes the interests of others.
It is very difficult to to determine the people we may call our enemies. They don’t wear any ugly masks but may be the very people who smile to us.
There are two major classifications of “enemies” that the Christian must be extremely vigilant about:
Spiritual Enemies: like satan, demons, principalities and their human agents (witches, sorcerers, etc) operate in a more subtle way. They are workers of darkness who’s die hard mission is to carry out the orders of the devil. (ie to kill, steal and destroy).
Physical enemies: may be friends, family members or colleagues at work who just do not agree with something or everything you do or say. It could even be someone you have never even met.
Your actions or inactions can just make enemies for you. Even the good or the bad you do may generate a lots of hate, jealousy and anger in another person.
Since it is difficult to tell by face who our enemies are, we must pray always and seek refuge in God. We must also allow the Word of God to dwell richly in us, that way, we can love and walk like Christ did. Remember “he that dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Ps 91: 1)
Begin to pray now.
Tomorrow we will discuss “WHY WE SHOULD LOVE OUR ENEMIES AND WHETHER THAT COMMAND INCLUDE BOTH CATEGORIES OF ENEMIES?
