Topic: Lift Him Up!
Text: John 3: 14- 15
14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in Him. Amen
As Isreal traveled from Mount Hor, along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom, the people grew impatient on the way. They spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!”
Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.
And the Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived (Numbers 21: 4- 9).
Several hundreds of years after this, when He was almost done explaining to Nicodemus what He meant by “being born again in order to see the kingdom of God”, Jesus added that, “just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him”.
This He said to signify 4 things.
- His hanging on the cross so that all who look to Him may be saved.
- His ascension to heaven to be seated at the right hand side of the Father interceding for us, especially to those who fix their eyes on Him as the author and finisher of their faith.
- Him being exalted for humbling Himself even unto death on the cross and He being given a name which is above every other. So that at the mention of His name every knee must bow.
- Then the fact that all the above will induce instant worship in the hearts of those who come to understand them. So that within their own hearts, they will exalt His name and lift Him up. The more He is magnified and exalted, the more He attracts others who are lost in sin to look unto Him and live.
Therefore LIFT HIM UP Beloved, both with your life and your song. Just lift Him up. Higher than your situation and limitations. Lift Jesus up because He’s worthy! The more you exalt Him with your adoration and lifestyle, the more many get to see and look into Him also. As they do, Jesus draws them, as He did us, unto Himself (John 12: 32).
Remember, so many people have sinned and gotten themselves bitten by the snake (satan). They will perish without a Savior. Lift Jesus Up today and watch His grace reach and minister LIFE to all who are lost. They can live if they keep their gaze on the Saviour. But how can they fix their eyes on the Saviour they can’t see? Unless You Lift Him Up; So high that all may see how great and marvellous our God is! See you at church!
