Topic: Let’s Talk A Little About God!
Text: Psalm 18: 30
As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in Him. Amen
Let’s take a moment and talk a little about God. This is crucial because we hear a lot about Him right from infancy and yet can’t claim absolute knowledge of Him.
As a matter of fact, our perception about Him keeps changing with the changing circumstances of our lives. Sometimes He’s a loving God when everything is alright, and a difficult God when times are hard.
The truth is, because God is invisible, we try to understand Him by reducing Him to the state of man (or how we understand mankind). And that is usually not the best.
For instance, those of us who grew up with fathers who will punish the least offence and insist we keep our distance away from them before they strike us again, tend to see God in that same vein. We think He is the kind of Father who would not rest until He has punished us severely for an offence committed. Sometimes even after confession, we try to keep our distance from Him. We don’t want any trouble. Just as we keep away (a little bit) from dear ones we just fell out with.
Some many others too relate God thinking He’s too loving to chastise them or allow any challenges come their way. So the least discipline from God is seen as uncaring on His part, though we admit it shapes us and makes us better. And when trials come our way, we accuse Him of neglect, though we somehow agree that our trials come to make us strong.
However beloved, God is nothing like the above description. As for God, His way is perfect and His word flawless. Everything He does is perfect, just as He has said in His word. He is not like man who can lie or change His mind. Rather, He’s full of tender mercies and pardon for all, especially, the offender. He lives to help, save, deliver, heal and LOVE all who run to Him for shelter. He disciplines those He loves and chastens everyone He accepts as his son (Heb 12: 6). Just to bring us into conformity with His nature and word.
So when men forsake you and friends are nowhere to be found; When loved ones leave you stranded in the cold and it seems you will never rise again; don’t just drown in self pity till you waste away. RUN TO GOD… CHASE AFTER HIM DAY AND NIGHT FOR REFUGE. He will never turn you down.
Should your folks ask you why you’re still holding on to God, even when there seem to be no hope for you at all due to some situation you find yourself? Tell them: As for God, His way is perfect! He is not like man.
Begin to pray now. Ask God to help you know Him more so that your faith in Him can grow even when your circumstance seems to challenge His very presence and essence in your life. For as for God, He is a perfect God, who is flawless at word and shields all who take refuge in Him. Never forget that.
