Today’s Devotion
Topic: Leave An Inheritance
Text: Proverbs 13:22
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous. Amen
Today’s world can best be described as a world of “Me, Myself & I”. But come to think of it; how will our nations be if we didn’t just live for ourselves, but lived also for one another, and for generations to come?
Some of us may be quick to look at ‘inheritance’ as standing for estates, cocoa farms, companies and other luxuries of life alone. But interestingly, you can also leave an inheritance by saying an intercessory prayer for someone, helping a needy child to go to school, sharing Christ with someone, and lending a helping hand to the less privileged in society.
It is important to note that we are not here on earth merely to make a living or a name for ourselves. We are here to be used by God to preserve creation, both now and for the future, by the decisions we make and the actions we take. Again, we are here to allow God have His way in our lives so that He may bless us and make us a blessing. We are also here to prepare for eternity. We are certainly not here, therefore, simply to amass materials for self pride. We came with nothing and will leave as we came.
Some people have had great “runways” already built for them by their parents, or the generation before them. If you are ‘priviledged’ with such a blessing, you must take off in the Word of God and help others. But if you don’t have such, don’t worry. Just realize it is your responsibility to grab a shovel and allow God help you build one for yourself and for those who will follow after you.
Beloved, what inheritance or spiritual investment are you likely to leave for those who will come after you in your family, church, work place, school, and society at large? Like a song writer once put it, “May all who come behind us find us faithful; may the fire of our devotion light their way. May the footsteps that we leave lead them to believe.” Child of God; put your hand on the plough and be faithful at giving your best for your time on this earth.
As we begin a new working week, pray now that God empowers you to be able to care for His creation; present and yet to come, and also to care about the people He has brought your way. Ask that your decisions and actions bring glory to Him, blessings to you and become an inheritance to generations after you.
