Topic: Keep Pushing On!
Text: Romans 7:19
For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Amen.
By nature, things just tend to follow the path of least resistance. A good example is the fact that rivers always flow around a mountain rather than through it. In other words, we tend to do that which is easiest, often to the neglect of that which is best.
It is easier to tell a lie to get out of a situation than to speak the truth and endure shame. For most of us, it appears easier to have a 1-hour romantic phone conversation with a loved one than to have intimacy with God in prayer for the same duration.
The Apostle Paul, in his rather sad documentation, tells of how he would rather live in good than to become a slave to sin but finds himself doing the evil that he hates.
Many of us can relate to this. The many times we have promised God to put an end to an unholy behaviour yet find ourselves back to that in just moments after.
In John 6:63, Jesus teaches that “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you– they are full of the Spirit and life”. It can be seen therefore that our human efforts always amount to nothing. It is evident also that our ability to dwell in righteousness is in our availability to remain influenced by the Spirit of God.
So, begin to pray your weaknesses to God right now. Also, dedicate enough time to the presence of God to study His Word, and receive wisdom on how to overcome sin and evil.
His grace is sufficient for you, for His power is made perfect in your weakness. “No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.” (1 John 3: 9, ESV).
