Topic: Just How Far Can You See?
Text: Genesis 13:14-15
14 The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west. 15 All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. Amen
Vision is the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom. It therefore gives one direction and keeps him focused in life. A visionless person cannot go far in life because he/ she only lives for the moment.
Physically, one’s ability to see far depends on:
1. Good sight- the ability to see well. This is often possible when the sensory organ in charge of sight (eyes) and nerves that connects it to the brain are intact.
2. Location- one located on an altitude/ high land can see farther than one in a low land.
To relate the above to our lives, our spiritual sensory organ for vision can only aid our planning into the future when we allow the Holy Spirit to open the eyes if our understanding. You see, through prayer and bible study our spirit man becomes enlightened about God and His plans for us.
Realizing how limitless God is, and the good plans He has for us allow us to SEE very far into all the blessing in Him prepared for us. Paul says “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people. (Ephesians 1:18).
We also established that our ability to see far largely depends on our altitude too. If the believer will stand on the mountain of God, (simply means walking in presence of God – for the mountain of God was synonymous those days to where God’s presence was) and on that mount, STAND ON CHRIST THE ROCK, then He / she can see as far in Christ as God reveals.
Let us not keep any vision in isolation. The success of every vision we bear for 2020 is embedded in CHRIST. Ignore the above truth and spiritual principles shared, and the vision will be faint and obscure. Proverbs 29: 18a says “where there is no vision, the people perish”. We don’t want to be a “visionless” generation.
Begin to pray now. Surrender all your ambitions, hopes and plans for the coming year to His will. Ask God to open the eyes of your heart and give you desire for His presence. Like Abram, God is saying to you today: Lift up your eyes from where you are in 2019 and look! HOW FAR CAN YOU SEE ME TAKE YOU IN 2020?
