Jesus Came To Seek And Save The Lost

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Jesus Came To Seek And Save The Lost (Self Assessment)

We thank God for giving us another Saturday to look into His word. Kindly read and medidate on the text below and answer the questions that follow:

Text: John 8: 3-11

3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.

5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.

7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

11 “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.” Amen.

Questions

  1. Forgetting about the speck in their own eyes, the pharisees did not only seek strong judgement against the woman who was caught in adultery, they also hoped to use that opportunity to tempt Jesus and eventually condemn Him too (verse 6).

Why do you think humanity as a body, loves to condemn, accuse and judge one another on issues, RIGHT or WRONG, when we know we actually do no better in our closets and need the forgiveness of the Father?

  1. Leviticus 20:10 teaches that this woman ought to have died. Did Jesus break God’s law by allowing the woman live?
  2. The Pharisees were convicted of their sins and had an opportunity to repent, confess to Jesus and be saved there and then, but didn’t. They were too shy to publicly show their need for the Savior. Does it mean then, that having the conviction of sin alone cannot save us? What must we do after being convicted of sin by the Holy Spirit?
  3. According to verse 9, the accusers began to leave the scene, from the oldest to the young. Why do you think the older ones left first and the youngest followed them accordingly? Could it be that they understood the depth of Jesus’ statement easier than the rest? If wisdom is associated with the aged, why are we the youth refusing to learn from the advanced in age?
  4. Kindly read verse 11 again and explain what you have learnt from today’s bible study?

Kindly reply through this same social media platform (Whatsapp/ Facebook). We always appreciate the deep Revelations you share with us. We learn a lot from that.

Be blessed by this amazing song. https://youtu.be/MIVvDD7GEKs
