It’s Easter Monday!

Topic: It’s Easter Monday!
Text: John 21: 9-13

9 When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread.10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn.

12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to His disciples after He was raised from the dead. Amen!

Peter had gone fishing with six other disciples. Throughout the night, they got nothing. Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. “He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered.” (John 21:4-5) Jesus then asked Peter to cast his net again, but to the right side of his fishing boat. This time there was a good catch and they had breakfast together.

When they had finished eating, Jesus looked to Peter and three times, He asked Him, “do you love Me?” “The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.” – (John 21:17)

Today, by Easter tradition, many churches and Christian organisations will gather to a picnic of games and feasting, obviously to celebrate our resurrected Saviour and also strengthen the love bond we share.

Jesus had breakfast with His disciples after His resurrection. Coming together to fellowship with foods and drinks; while we engage in various recreational activities is not a bad idea after all.

The quick question however is: while we do that, do we really love Him; the one we eat in honour of? If we do, then like He showed Peter, the best way to demonstrate this love is first to obey Him and secondly, reach out to the hungry, lost, backslidden and those who have become weak and weary in matters regarding their faith in God.

It is our duty to feed them and take care of both their spiritual and physical needs. By doing so, we demonstrate to the world the same Love our Father has for the world when He gave His only begotten son as a ransom for our sins. So that all who believe in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.

Precious One, Let us not dine and make merry in vain please. This is not the time nor period for sin and extremes. All we do and say, must bring glory to Him in whose honour we gather and share fellowship.

Begin to pray now. Pray that we don’t disregard God’s divine love rekindled in us during the period of lent and also during the Passion Week to engage in activities contrary to the word of God. Also pray for traveling mercies for all those who are either returning from conventions or traveling for picnics.

Remember that the world will be watching to see the Jesus we preach in our actions today. They are attracted to God’s love when they see us honour God with our own lives. Do not be a stumbling block. Kindly click, watch and be blessed: https://youtu.be/BGd9QTAZVHo
