Topic: It Is The Lord!
Text: John 21: 7a
Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” Amen
After His resurrection, Jesus appeared again to His disciples, by the Sea of Galilee. This is how it happened: Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples DID NOT REALIZE THAT IT WAS JESUS. He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.
Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. The other disciples followed, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.
Beloved, it is worth noting here that Peter and his friends had left for fishing with confidence. They knew how to fish and that was enough to spur them on. However, having tried all night in vain to make a single catch, a man standing ashore instructed they cast their nets to the right, which they did unto a bountiful harvest. There and then it dawned on John that this man who commanded them is JESUS.
Child of God, look into your life and observe its flow, twists and turns. Look back and see the miraculous things that happened to you, and even the divine interventions that have been happening to you lately. Can you not tell that IT IS THE LORD JESUS AT WORK IN YOUR LIFE? — Guiding your steps into abundance and “making the boundary lines fall for you in pleasant places.” (Psalm 16:6)
Is it still not the Lord who delivers us from all evil and “trains our hands for war” (Psalm 144:1)? It is indeed the Lord, beloved! It is He! Begin to bless and praise His name for all the mighty deeds He’s been manifesting through you. Thank Him for His love and favour; ask for grace to trust Him more!
Just as Peter decided to run towards the Lord once He discovered it was He who had earlier directed them to abundance, so must we refuse to be too far from our Lord. Get down from your boat and rush through the waters that put a barrier between you and your Jesus. Run to Him ashore; He’s been waiting to fellowship and dine with you.
