Topic: Is There Not A God In Israel?
(Self Assessment)

It is another beautiful Saturday morning and we want to zoom straight into our weekly Bible study. Kindly read the passage above and share your thoughts with us.

Text: 2 Kings 1: 2- 6

2 Now Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.

3 But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? 4 Now therefore thus saith the Lord, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed.

5 And when the messengers turned back unto him, he said unto them, Why are ye now turned back? 6 And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. Amen

Questions

  1. Ahaziah had fallen from his upper room and wounded himself. What are some of the factors that cause believers to fall from the heights that God places us and leave us wounded?
  2. Most Christians in trouble tend to look everywhere for solution other than from the God of Heaven. In their defense, they brand our God as a “slow” God. Why do you think some people comfortably call the Supreme God “slow?”
  3. Is our Lord indeed a slow God? Kindly explain your answer with scripture.
  4. When the King sent messagers to inquire from baal- zebub, god of Ekron, Elijah was not there. But God sent an angel to ask Elijah to meet them with a word of prophecy against the king. Does it mean God knows all about the secret places we go and things we do in search of solutions?
  5. For not seeking the face of the Lord in his sickness, God decreed that Ahaziah will not recover from his sick bed. What are some of the consequences that happen to a believer who consults other mediums for solution, defraud others for unholy wealth or employ deceitful tactics to maintain an advantage over others?
  6. In what ways should a Christian in despair be assured that the solution to his or her problems is in Jesus and Jesus alone? Kindly explain with Biblical references.
