Irreplaceable?

Topic: Irreplaceable?
Text: Esther 1:12

But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s command brought by his eunuchs; therefore the king was furious, and his anger burned within him. Amen

Irreplaceable, simply put, is explained as incapable of being replaced. Other words similar in meaning to this are; impossible to do without, all-important and indispensable, just to mention but a few.

In the third year of his reign, King Ahasuerus had a feast, as recorded in Esther 1:10-11; On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, seven eunuchs who served in the presence of King Ahasuerus, to bring Queen Vashti before the king, wearing her royal crown, in order to show her beauty to the people and the officials, for she was beautiful to behold.

Upon refusing this request from the king, queen Vashti incurred the wrath of the king, causing her to lose her place as queen. Probably, the queen felt more secured than ever in her position, and that she could disregard and not yield to the king. She was “in charge” of herself because of her beauty, forgetting it was only a privilege to be in that position.

The call of God upon a man or woman to serve should always be seen as a great privilege. Just like Vashti was gifted with beauty, many have also been gifted with tremendous talents to be used in the house of God. Sadly, we will always bargain for a benefit or two before we will agree to usher, sing, evangelize or even help clean God’s house. When Vashti refused to honour her King, she lost her place as a queen. When Elijah complained of him being the only righteous prophet, God quickly asked him to anoint Elisha to take his place.

It is a great thing to serve the Lord, with everything He has endowed us with, but let’s remember that our unreadiness or unwillingness to heed to the service of God will not bring God’s work to a halt. The work of God will always continue with or without us because once He starts it, He will surely bring it to completion. The things God endows us with through grace are not to be taken for granted.

Begin to pray and ask God for a willing heart to serve Him. Great rewards always await us when we willingly yield to God. Remember, you are replaceable!
