Topic: How Many Are Your Days?
Text: Psalm 90: 12
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Amen
What would be your answer if anyone asked you how long you hope to live? Your answer is most likely to spell out a considerable period of time within which you hope to achieve a lot before you depart.
In Psalm 90, (the oldest Psalm in the Bible), Moses the servant of God, makes a profound prayer unto the Almighty God. Having observed the events of life, he wrote:
“Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God. You turn people back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, you mortals!” For you, a thousand years are as a passing day, as brief as a few night hours. You sweep people away like dreams that disappear. They are like grass that springs up in the morning.
“In the morning it blooms and flourishes, but by evening it is dry and withered. Seventy years are given to us! Some even live to eighty. But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we fly away. Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.” (verses 2-6; 10, 12)
His prayer reveals that though many of us would hope to live long, our days on earth are actually very brief. As to how brief one’s life may be, none can tell. So Moses thought it wise to ask God to teach him to number his days aright and apply his heart to wisdom. Numbering your days is being able to tell the span of a particular season or phase of your life. To apply your heart to wisdom is to seek to please your Creator and Judge in every single thing you do over the time frame you have.
Beloved, our lives are made up of seasons and times. Since seasons and times do not last forever, we must know that every season in our lives will give way to another sooner or later. It is therefore imperative to ask God to help us number our days in the particular season in which we currently find ourselves. Ask Him for a heart that will yearn to live wisely and focus our energies on what’s actually relevant, first to God and then to our own lives.
You may already be nearing the end of your days in a particular season; how wisely have you lived; how will you live over the rest of the days left for you? Meditate on this and pray.
Remember that, “If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him” (James 1:5).
Be wise; seek first His Kingdom and righteousness so that all other things may be added unto you. Watch and be blessed: https://youtu.be/_LFq-ZepNbw
