Topic: How Long Can You Live?
Text: 2 Kings 20:21, 21:2

20:21 Hezekiah rested with his fathers. And Manasseh his son succeeded him as king. 21:2 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, following the detestable practices of the nations the LORD had driven out before the Israelites. Amen

All men have an inherent fear for death. We therefore make a conscious effort to avoid any dangerous act that will shorten our lives on earth. We try to eat good food and drink good water, take drugs against illness, exercise, all in an attempt to live long.

But the Bible reminds us of how short our days are on earth. In Psalm 90:10 “The length of our days is seventy years or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away”

We must bear in mind that the duration of our life span is not of the greatest value as the positive impact or legacy we leave on our generation and the generations to come.

King Hezekiah after praying for longer life is spared extra 15 years. He finally gives birth to a wicked son within this period of his old age who succeeds him as king and by evil ruins every good legacy (Hezekiah) had established.

We need to bear in mind that no matter how long we live, it is appointed unto us to die once, there after- judgement. So in as much as we pray for long life, we must becareful to live such lives that glorify God and leaves a great legacy for posterity.

Let us incline our hearts to the Word and will of God and live as wise men, redeeming the times for the days are evil. If we allow our hearts to be overtaken by sin and foolishness, we will be found wanting when death or rapture meet us unawares.

Psalm 90: 12 says “..teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Begin to pray now. Pray for a healthy long life dedicated to God in purity.
