Today’s Devotion
Topic: Help A Minister Today!
Text: Luke 8: 1- 3
1 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means. Amen
These days it has become very uncomfortable to have people depend on us for sustenance because we bearly have enough for self. It’s been difficult to go out of our way to bless people but we try. However, to consistently support those who serve in the Lord’s vineyard full time is even harder because, we can hardly tell what they do apart from the few hours we see them get about the “things of God”.
Sometimes, we get upset that they wouldn’t rather work to earn a living so that they “do the work of God” part time. That way, no one becomes a burden on anyone, we all bear our own burdens and Christ will help us all.
Beloved, in as much as all the above are true and practical, it may not always be so from God’s perspective. There are certain callings that OUGHT to be FULL TIME. The nature and demand of the work make it impossible to offer partial attention.
Such ministers have their entirety completely immersed in God. He requires their utmost devotion day and night. They labour tirelessly in prayer on behalf of other saints and in bible study to teach Truth to all who would listen.
Every skill acquired through education and natural talent are employed by the Lord for the work in His vineyard. Such ministers need to be supported.
Jesus traveled from town to town, He had 12 men with Him. They really had devoted themselves to the service of the Lord. People like Mary, Joanna and Susanna and many others were the ones God used to sustain them in ministry and it’s a beautiful thing.
Decide to sow into a genuine Minister’s life today. They labor for you day and night and beat themselves to the discipline of God’s word to be worthy examples for your faith. Do not get discouraged about the many who seem to be extorting others for personal gains. They must not be the reason why the genuine minister should suffer.
Jesus says “if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.” (Matt 10: 42). Meditate carefully on this word and begin to pray.
Like Mary Magdalene, remember where you were in sin and how God through a minister rescued you and decide to help one or another to continue in the labour of the Lord. You have done a beautiful thing this way, even if all you could do was to offer a cup of cold water. God will definitely reward you.
