Topic: Heavy Armor On The Outside, Deep Fears Within!
Text: 1 Samuel 17:38-39, 45
38 Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. 39 David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. “I cannot go in these,” he said to Saul, “because I am not used to them.” So he took them off. 45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Amen
King Saul had a powerful armor; one which weighed heavier than young David could bear. Yet he was very much afraid of Goliath and hid in caves, he and all Israel with him.
Do you now realise that you rely too much on the arm of flesh and on the things that surround you? Why have you such a great over-reliance on your qualification, work experience and your status in life as if with them as your armor, you can win every battle?
Truth is, while these achievements earn you great respect in society, they really don’t deal with the issues that highly intimidate you within and leave you hiding in caves, filled with fear and anxiety when opposition arises.
Deep inside, you are terrified by battles at work, school and the home that seem to overwhelm you. Your heart is weak although you bear the biggest armor in the eyes of men.
Well, the time has come that you put your confidence in the Lord like David did in verse 45. Your victory is assured once you regconise that the battle is not yours.
Pray now and hand over all your fears to God. He is the God of the armies of Israel. “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the LORD”. (Prov. 21:31).
