Topic: Greater Than All!
Text: John 10: 29
“My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.” Amen
It was the Festival of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter too, and Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon’s Colonnade. The Jews who were there gathered around Him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”
Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; NO ONE WILL SNATCH THEM OUT OF MY HAND. My Father, who has given them to me, is GREATER THAN ALL; NO ONE CAN SNATCH THEM OUT OF MY FATHER’S HAND. I and the Father are one.” (John 10: 22- 30)
Wow! Where are the sheep of our Lord Jesus, then —those who have been redeemed from darkness into light; those who have been purchased and washed by the blood of the Lamb; those who LISTEN to the voice of Jesus, our GOOD SHEPHERD, and are KNOWN by Him; those who FOLLOW THE LORD EVERYWHERE HE LEADS? Gather them together; there is a great message for them, and this is it:
Tell them not to fear the fiery darts that are shot at them from every angle, and all the traps that besiege them; just to make them fall. Tell them not to worry about the many challenges that confront them to weaken their stance and faith in the Lord. They should not entertain any kind of fear, for that matter, because they are in safe hands.
The shepherd who leads them assures them that no one WILL snatch them out of His strong hands. (The word ‘Will’ here implies that they won’t even attempt to do so). Then He also said no one CAN snatch them from His Father’s hands too (This implies that, they will not even succeed if they tried). The reason for the above ‘claim’ is intriguing. It is because HIS FATHER IS GREATER THAN ALL, AND ALSO BECAUSE HE IS ONE WITH THE FATHER! Amazing!
The Father is greater than all? Yes; He so is! Greater than all the devils in hell put together? Yes He is! Greater than all the troubles, trials and threats that come your way? Yes He is! Greater than all forms of diseases and sicknesses? Yes He is! Greater than all your fears about tomorrow and the unknown? Yes He is! Greater than all your weaknesses; those very things that threaten your faith and stability in the Lord? Yes He is! What about the mountains, the rivers, the valleys, the storms and heat of life that impede our growth? He is; the Father is greater than all and He is One with the Son! Halleluyah!
“Who then shall separate us from the love of Christ? Is it trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Rom 8: 35, 37). “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all — how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?” (Rom 8: 31- 32)
Cheer up, Child of God. You are safe in God’s hands. Your only worry must be how to be and remain HIS SHEEP, and no one will snatch you away! Those who try will not succeed. Your Father is greater than all. Begin to pray and bless the Lord for this salvation you have received freely as a gift of His love. Ask for the zeal and humility to remain His and to be known by Him. Your safety is guaranteed after this! Your Father who is greater than all is faithful to keep you without blemish till the last day of His return. (2 Tim 1: 12)
