Topic: God Is Good
Text: Psalm 119: 68
68 You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees. Amen
One basic truth that every Christian knows way too well, is that our God is good. We remind ourselves of this truth each time we gather, where the leader or Pastor says: “GOD IS GOOD” and we cheerfully respond: “ALL THE TIME”. To be sure that there is mutual understanding regarding this truth, he reverses the statement by saying: “AND ALL THE TIME, and we say: GOD IS GOOD!
But we lied! In our lives, God remains good only when everything is going well with us. The moment struggles and challenges come our way, we get very upset with Him and think Him unfair. Sometimes, we even walk out on Him and say blasphemous things against His holy name.
However the text for today is very wonderful if we would lend ourselves to its revelational truths that not only is the Lord good, but EVERYTHING HE DOES IS GOOD TOO.
This includes whatever He makes happen for us, whatever He’s said regarding us, whatever He does for us, whatever He gifts to us, whatever He allows us to go through and whatever we suffer for His sake.
All the storms that can flood our lives, do not come to destroy us but to refine and make us stronger in Him. Of all Joseph went through, He did not become bitter against God or his brothers.
When they feared that Joseph would revenge the ills he suffered in their hands years back, he rather replied them saying, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for GOOD to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” (Gen 50:20).
When Job’s wife couldn’t bear the sight of her beloved husband suffering for being innocent, she said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!” But Job replied, “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept GOOD from God, and not trouble?” In all this, Job did not sin in what he said. (Job 2: 9-10).
Therefore count it all joy, beloved, when you meet trials of various kinds. For we know that in all things God works for the GOOD of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (Rom 8: 28).
Begin to pray now, that you remain steadfast about the goodness of our God even if things are not going the way you desired. He has no iota of evil in Him, neither has He any desire to corrupt Himself with wickedness. He is good and what He does is good.
Expect nothing but good from God, even if what you are going through does not look good to you. All of those, will definitely work for your good, just as they did in times past when you thought you had lost it all and God pulled a mighty miracle in your favour! HE IS GOOD AND HIS MERCIES SHALL ENSURE.
