Give It A Thought!

Topic: Give It A Thought!
Text: Matthew 3:9-10 (NLT)

9 Don’t just say to each other, ‘We’re safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.’ That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones. 10 Even now the ax of God’s judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire. Amen.

The thought of knowing that one is secured in life is a great feeling. Knowing that someone has “got our backs” is relieving.

The Pharisees and Sadducees saw themselves as safe and secured. They were leaders of the synagogues and had studied the law. They instructed people to obey the law and were very regarded and held in high esteem. To them, obeying the law was enough righteousness and guarantee of eternal life.

What’s more, they considered themselves as descendants of Abraham, a special race chosen by God as His own people. Nothing could go wrong with them. They were indeed safe in their own eyes.

But that kind of safety and security was nothing to boast of, so John the Baptist challenged them saying, “dont just say to each other, we’re safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.”

Like the Pharisees and Sadducees, most of us feel safe and secured because of some heritage we have. Probably, our parents are ministers of God or we have been Christians for so long such that, we feel that should be enough security for our salvation. Some others have mentors and other loved ones praying and interceding for us day and night, what could go wrong with them?

But Precious One, the truth is, having such people in our lives is a blessing from God, but this doesn’t guarantee eternal life. Hiding behind these “heritages” and living our lives anyhow offers no security. The only security in this world and the world to come is in Jesus Christ, and that’s the TRUTH.

1 John 5:12-13 says, “And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does mot have God’s son does not have life.”

Even now the axe of God’s judgement is poised. The end of all things comes and we will have to account for our lives. This should get us into reflection mode. A tree is expected to bear fruits, not just any fruits but good fruits. We cannot be God’s people in name only. All aspects of our lives that contradict our christian values should be cut off.

Remember Jesus shall return. Let’s stay awake then. Let’s get ready to meet him. Let’s throw away every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily traps us. Only the pure in heart will see Jesus, those whose garments glow with purity. Think about this. Begin to pray now. Kindly click, watch and be blessed: https://youtu.be/8nTaBpLcLgU
