Text: John 3: 27

John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. Amen

When David was old and advanced in years, “Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, “I will be king.” So he got chariots and horses ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him. (His father had never rebuked him by asking, “Why do you behave as you do?” He was also very handsome and was born next after Absalom). He conferred with Joab son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they gave him their support. (1 Kings 1:5-7)

When David heard this, He called in Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet and Benaiah son of Jehoiada and said to them: “Take your lord’s servants with you and have Solomon my son mount my own mule and take him down to Gihon. There have Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him king over Israel.

Blow the trumpet and shout, ‘Long live King Solomon!’ Then you are to go up with him, and he is to come and sit on my throne and reign in my place. I have appointed him ruler over Israel and Judah.” (1 Kings 1:32-35).

The men obeyed David and made Solomon king. “All the people went up after him, playing the flutes and rejoicing greatly, so that the ground shook with the sound”(1 kings 1:40).
Now, Adonijah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they were finishing their feast.

On hearing the sound of the trumpet, Joab asked, “What’s the meaning of all the noise in the city?” Even as he was speaking, Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest arrived and told them everything that had gone on and how the King himself had mentioned Solomon as his successor, not Adonijah. At this, all Adonijah’s guests rose in alarm and dispersed.

Beloved, when you see people carry themselves about as some great persons that they are not, don’t worry yourself too much with them. Even if it appears that they have the support of those who matter in society. It is for the Lord to depose and establish kings (Dan: 2: 21). If the place, position, throne or mantle is not given them from above, that which is from above will eventually overthrow it easily. And all who were with them will disperse and leave them standing alone, in the cold.

However, if a person’s life, marriage, ministry and career is ordained from above, it has the full backing of God. Heaven defends him/ her even when they themselves are unaware. So much favour and grace is conferred on them every step along the way. Whatever they do prospers and stands the test of time.

So why don’t you go to God in prayer right now. Tell Him, you have learnt how man can do nothing unless it’s given him from heaven. Plead His authority, wisdom, guidance and grace over your life as a parent, leader, pastor, manager, supervisor and student. Also pray heaven’s full backing and support in your family, business, career and studies.

You are not your own, you did not appoint yourself, but God. May only that which God has ordained for your life come to pass in Jesus name. None can change God’s plan for you or steal your blessings, Oh Solomon. Not even when they feel they are more qualified and well suited for it than you are. IT IS ORDAINED FROM ABOVE.
