Forsaken (4th Statement)

Topic: Forsaken (4th Statement)
Text: Matthew 27: 46

About the 9th hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice,”Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which means “my God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Amen

After the fall of man, sin ruled, making it impossible for man to reach God. Our Father in His boundless love made every way possible to reconcile man back to Himself.

For the propitiation of our sins, there had to be blood sacrifice. “For almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission” (Heb. 9:22). That is why the Law of Moses recommended the sacrifice of different animals for the atonement of different sins.

However, “the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they were outwardly clean”. (Heb. 9: 13). God therefore intended a superior sacrifice that will cleanse the consciences of man and deal with sin once for all.

When our Lord Jesus offered Himself as the sacrificial Lamb of God, He was to become God’s ultimate sacrifice for the atonement for our sins.

On the cross, our sins disfigured Him. The sins of generations before, during and after that era were placed on Him. The Father could neither behold Him nor come to terms with His sin inflicted outlook.

Jesus cried out” My God My God why have thou forsaken me”, to depict how lonely and rejected our sins had made him. Yet there was absolute silence in the heavens: for the Holy Son of God had become sin in our place so that we shall be the righteousness of God.

Isaiah 53: 1 puts it well when it says “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him. He was despised and rejected… He took our infirmities … yet we considered him stricken by God…”

Jesus took our place so we might live. He purchased our redemption with His precious blood and paid off all the debt we owed.

The only outstanding debt now is to accept the gift of salvation by faith; love Him with all our heart and love one another just as He has loved us.
Begin to pray now. Jesus paid it all; you don’t have to carry those burdens anymore. Receive His Grace For All Your Sins.
