Topic: Forget Not All His Benefits!
Text: Psalm 77:11
11 I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. Amen.
Sometimes our gratitude is “half- baked” because of the natural tendency to forget things easily. You see, after God took Israel out of Egypt, they praised God. Exodus 15:1 – Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: “I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted. Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea.” This “praise song” was short lived.
When Israel became thirsty and hungry, they had a different “praise song”. Exodus 16:3 – The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the LORD’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.
Each time we read about Israel’s exodus from Egypt to Canaan, we are the first to conclude the Israelites were an ungrateful people; especially after all what God did for them. However, if we will be fair to ourselves, we will realize how easily we also forget God when things seem to go well for us.
We appear to remember God only when situations overwhelm us. We fellowship with Him every dawn, meditate on His word throughout the day and by night, go to bed with the full assurance that tomorrow will be better. This we do till our request is granted. Just then, the urgency to pray diminishes and the consistency of fellowship is also reduced. We forget entirely about the divine intervention that saved us until we find ourselves in trouble again. Now that is selfish.
Go on therefore and reflect on all the Lord has done for you and be grateful. Praise Him through your abundance but don’t let it stop when the bad times come. If you can remember His goodness in times past and praise Him all the way, He will in turn commend your gratitude and come through for you always. Be careful not to forget as easily as you breathe. Be grateful!
